Vail is a small town on the grow. The local community building is used by senior citizens, 4-H Clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts, as well as the Community Club.

Each September, Vail Fun Days are held with activities for the whole family.

A local medical clinic is staffed by a doctor each morning. The city park has a shelter house with modern restrooms, playground equipment, and a ball field. A local swimming pool is also available.
Community churches: Vail Presbyterian Church and St. Anne's Catholic Church.

Two natural prairies have been preserved at local cemeteries within a few miles of Vail.
