The proposed Denison dog park has been entered in the running to win a share of $200,000 for the project.
On May 1, PetSafe, a manufacturer for pet feeding, fencing and behavior training solutions, launched its third annual Bark for Your Park contest.
Voting for the contest is open to the public. Votes may be cast once per day at both www.petsafe.net and the PetSafe Facebook page. At the end of the voting period (May 31), PetSafe representatives will select 15 finalists based on the city’s land availability, support from civic leaders, population size and number of votes.
PetSafe will announce the finalists on June 5 and the vote reopens to the public. The winners will be named on July 31.
The project with the most votes will receive a $100,000 PetSafe dog park. PetSafe will award $25,000 to help fund a dog park project to four additional finalists.
Evan Blakley of the Denison Young Professionals explained that should Denison be chosen as the overall winners, the prize money, along with other donations, could potentially fund the entire project.
“This would be incredibly positive for the project,” he said.

Blakley stated that by voting for the project, Denison citizens would have the opportunity to show support for a valuable community project.
“We have a fantastic plan and have gotten great community support. A lot of the pieces are already in place,” said Blakley. “One of the final pieces to make the dog park a reality is funding.”
The majority of the project costs involve converting the land from a grass plot to a dog park. Land must be graded and fenced and a parking lot will be added. Blakley stated that the dog park initiative has also fielded donations of water fountains as well as other monetary contributions.
He continued that donations are continued to be encouraged despite the possibility of winning a cash prize.
“We’re still going to have a large push within the community to encourage philanthropy and donations towards the dog park project,” said Blakley. For more information on PetSafe and the Bark for Your Park contest, visit www.petsafe.net.
