FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Denison’s Celebration “Red, White, & Boom” Scheduled for Thursday, July 3
(Denison, IA) – The Denison Tourism Board and Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County have announced plans for the Annual Independence Day Celebration in Denison. The event will be held on Thursday, July 3. The event will kick off with a Bill Riley Talent Search at Washington Park at 1:00 p.m. Then we will have a parade starting at 3:30 p.m. in uptown Denison, with festivities continuing at Yellow Smoke Park at 5:00 p.m. There will be a variety of fun activities taking place for people of all ages, food vendors will be on site, and the evening will end with the annual Fireworks display!
Crawford County Tourism Coordinator, Michele Ertz, is excited to host this year’s festivities and will help keep all events running smoothly. “We are very excited about the newly added Bill Riley Talent Search and the parade. We have many fun things for all members of the family,” says Ertz.
Activities will begin with a sand castle contest for children 12 years and under. There will also be a side walk chalk contest for 12 years and under. An evening run/walk will provide a chance to get active while taking in the beautiful scenery around the park. A bean bag tournament will be held on the beach, for participants ages 13 years and older. There will be a kid’s carnival at the Nature Center that includes games and prizes. Again this year, the always popular and entertaining Sink or Float cardboard boat races event will also be held in the beach area. Participants are to make their cardboard boats ahead of time using only certain materials and then compete in various events. Please contact the CDC for a sheet of rules for each event.
Food vendors will be serving a wide variety of options, allowing visitors to enjoy dinner and spend the entire evening at Yellow Smoke. There will be music and socializing on the beach before and during the fireworks.
