Exciting plans are underway to provide a new house for Santa in our uptown area. The Women in Business Impact Organization (WIBIO-a committee of the Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County) is spearheading the project. Members of the group visited the future site for the Santa house at one of their recent meetings. The building will be located between the United Bank of Iowa’s drive through and the Consumers Credit Union office, in the park area behind the tall pine tree.
Mr. Phil Nichols (Owner of Judge Connor’s Bed & Breakfast) has agreed to construct the small building. The group is seeking donations of materials and money to fund the effort. Nichols says his light construction design will require ½ inch exterior grade plywood, standard 2 by 4’s, small windows and dark shingles among the other normal construction materials. To donate materials or to make a cash donation, contact Rachel Desy at the CDC office at 712-263-5621.
The group would like to extend their gratitude to the sponsors who have made donations for the project so far including Bank Iowa, Consumers Credit Union, Crawford County Bank, Greater Iowa Credit Union, Telco Triad Credit Union, United Bank of Iowa, and Wells Fargo.
Santa’s new house is planned for the jolly old elf to be able to receive visits from area children this holiday season by the end of November. Once open, volunteers will be needed to assist Santa & Mrs. Claus to pass out treats to visitors. The schedule of open hours will be determined by the number of volunteer hours that are committed. Watch for details of the building’s progress and schedule of open hours as the fall and holiday seasons approach.
The WIBIO is an organization of local business women who call the Denison area home, and have joined forces to impact and improve our community. For further information on the Santa House project contact the CDC Office at 263-5621.
