Denison, IA-Residents from across the region will converge in Denison next Sunday, November 22nd for the largest shopping promotion of the holiday season. Food samples and the recipes to create them will be on display at the participating businesses, and many retailers will be offering some of their best deals of the season. The event presents an excellent opportunity to cross items off gift lists while supporting the local economy, says the Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County (CDC), who organizes the event.
The official time of the event will be from Noon until 4:00pm; however some businesses may continue their sales later. Participants are encouraged to start at the Donna Reed Theater at Broadway and Main Street to pick up a list of participating businesses across the area. The merchants will provide free samples while they last, as well as recipe cards to recreate the treats they are serving. Then shoppers can stop back at the Donna Reed Theatre lobby and have their recipe book assembled. In addition, shoppers can receive free gift wrapping of their day’s purchases at the Donna Reed Theater lobby, donated by the Crawford County Thrivent Board.
"The Holiday Open House and Recipe Walk has been successful in past years and we have more participants this year to provide more variety, " said Evan Blakley, Executive Director of the CDC, "We encourage all residents to come out and see the new offerings at all our businesses."
The participating businesses this year are: CDC, Crawford County Abstract, Donna Reed Foundation Museum & Theatre, Don’s Inc. Jewelry, Glidden House Bed & Breakfast, Hy-Vee Food Store, Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits, Judge Connor’s Bed & Breakfast, La Prensa, Peek a Boutique, Providence Inn, Reynold’s Clothing, Saturday Night Clothing, Something Unique, Splurge!, Steren Electronic Solutions (formerly Radio Shack), T&J’s Shoes & More, The Junkery, The McHenry House, Thrifty White Pharmacy & Gifts, Wise Monkey Quilting, and Your Treasure Chest.
