Job Description
Position: Tourism Coordinator
Status: Hourly Part-Time (~32 hours week)
Pay: $16/hour
Hours: Flexible hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5 PM, with occasional weekend and after-hours work as needed (~32 hours week)
Primary Purpose of Position:
The CDC Tourism Coordinator will lead efforts to enhance, promote, and facilitate tourism throughout Denison and Crawford County. As the key advocate for tourism, this role involves a wide range of responsibilities aimed at maximizing the area’s appeal to visitors.
Position Responsibilities & Duties:
Event Project Management & Marketing: Plan, manage, and promote events, including high-profile events like the Tri City BBQ Fest.
Marketing & Content Creation: Develop and organize marketing materials to promote tourism in Crawford County.
Tourism Opportunities Development: Identify and foster new tourism opportunities, including attractions, activities, and events throughout Crawford County.
County-Wide Marketing Management: Oversee the distribution of marketing materials to prospects, businesses, and tourism organizations to enhance county-wide visibility.
Budget Management: Monitor expenses and follow a budget to ensure the effectiveness of tourism initiatives.
Networking & Promotion: Attend meetings and events relevant to actively promoting Crawford County.
Office Administration: Assist with the CDC’s general office duties such as greeting visitors, answering phone calls, responding to emails, and providing excellent customer service to tourists, community members, and partners.
Additional Duties as Assigned: Assist with other projects and duties that support the CDC’s overall mission.
Minimum Experience & Education Required:
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience with Canva, Social Media, Microsoft Office, and other computer applications
Degree in hospitality, event management, marketing, or a related field preferred, but not required.
Bilingual skills are a plus.
Knowledge of the local Crawford County area is a plus
Skills:
Excellent communication skills for interacting with the CDC Board of Directors, Denison Tourism Board, Crawford County Supervisors, local businesses, residents, and tourism entities.
Proficiency in using standard office equipment and software programs like Canva, Microsoft Office, and other relevant tools.
Ability to exercise good judgment, creativity, and decisiveness.
Capability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong understanding of social media platforms and strategies.
Self-Motivated & Proactive: Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to identify opportunities or projects without constant direction. This role requires someone who can see what needs to be done and take ownership of tasks from start to finish.
Team-Oriented with a Positive Attitude: Must work well both independently and collaboratively, accept feedback constructively, and be willing to adjust work (like marketing materials or event logistics) without resistance.
Reliable and Accountable: Able to follow through on assigned tasks in a timely manner without needing frequent reminders. Clear communication and task tracking are essential.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing and walking.
Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
